McLaren F1 Team Principal Believes Magnussen Deserves Suspension For Miami GP

The head of Formula 1 team McLaren Andrea Stella in a commentary for The Race suggested that Haas driver Kevin Magnussen deserves to be suspended for his actions during the Grand Prix Miami (USA) sprint race.

On May 4, during the sprint race Magnussen repeatedly violated the limits of the track and aggressively defended against pursuers. The 31-year-old Dane said that by doing this he tried to help his co-driver, German Nico Hulkenberg, fight for seventh place.

Magnussen was penalized three times and came in eighteenth. As a result of qualifying racer Haas will start from the nineteenth position. The winner of the sprint and qualifying was the current world champion, Dutch driver of Oracle Red Bull Racing Max Verstappen.

We have a case of behavior being intentional in terms of damaging another competitor and this behavior is perpetuated within the same race and repeated over the same season. Maybe you need to spend a weekend at home with your family and reflect on your sportsmanship and then go back. It is completely unacceptable. It makes no sense from a sportsmanship point of view and this should be addressed immediately.

Magnussen is in fifteenth position in the individual standings after five rounds of the 2024 season of the races, having scored only one point (tenth place in the Australian Grand Prix).
