Spartak striker Quincy Promes wants to get Russian citizenship to avoid extradition, journalists of the Dutch portal AD have reported.

Promes was previously charged in the Netherlands with smuggling drugs worth 1,370 kilograms, Het Parool reported on May 30.

On June 5, the first hearing on the charges against the athlete was held in the Amsterdam court. According to the prosecutor's office, Promes invested €200 thousand in drugs and planned to get €6 million from their sale.

In addition, he was also accused of assaulting his cousin with a knife. According to a source, the athlete needs a Russian passport to avoid justice in his homeland.

His agreement with Spartak is valid until the summer of 2024. Last season, the 31-year-old player has 37 matches in all competitions, 25 goals and ten assists. The Transfermarkt portal estimates the market value of the forward at €11 million.

Earlier, the Dutch journalist Jeroen Kapteins told SE that Promes can be sentenced, but nothing can be done with him as long as he is in Russia.
