Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has requested to move their AFC Champions League round of 16 match against Esteghlal, previously scheduled in Tehran, to a neutral venue. This information was reported by the Daily Mail.
According to sources, Al-Nassr's management expressed concerns for the safety of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2023, fans in Tehran attempted to storm the hotel where the forward was staying.
It was reported that the Asian Football Confederation denied Al-Nassr's request, so the match will proceed on March 3 at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Ronaldo has been playing for Al-Nassr since 2023. So far this season, he has participated in 30 matches across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and providing four assists.
