Bayern Manager Kompany: We Were a Step Too Late in the Decisive Moments

Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern Munich, commented on his team's defeat to Barcelona during the third round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the 2024/2025 season.

Kompany told the media:

I want to make a very precise analysis. I don't want to beat around the bush. We didn't find a solution to the counterattacks and the individual play of the three (Lewandowski, Yamal, Raphinha). We were a step too late in the decisive moments. There are no excuses. What's important is that we learn from this game.

The match took place at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, ending with a 4:1 victory for the home team. Barcelona's Brazilian forward Rafinha scored a hat-trick, while Polish striker Robert Lewandowski added another goal. The only goal for Bayern came from English striker Harry Kane.

After three matches, Barcelona have accumulated six points, positioning themselves in tenth place in the standings. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are down in 23rd place with three points.

In the next round of the UEFA Champions League, Bayern will host Portuguese club Benfica at home on November 6, with the match scheduled to kick off at 23:00 GMT+3. Barcelona will also play away against Serbia's Crvena Zvezda on the same day and at the same time.

Previously, Barcelona's head coach Hans-Dieter Flick commented on his team's victory over Bayern in the Champions League group stage. Moreover, Bayern has set a club record by losing three consecutive away matches for the first time in the main European tournament.
