Bayern Munich has announced that the number 5 jersey, worn by legendary captain and coach Franz Beckenbauer, will no longer be in use within the team, as stated by the club's press service.
Franz Beckenbauer, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, World Cup, and European Championship champion, passed away on January 7, 2024.
In memory of Franz Beckenbauer: FC Bayern will never again give out jersey number 5.

During his career at Bayern, Beckenbauer secured numerous trophies, including four West German championships, four domestic cups, three European Champions Cups, as well as the Cup Winners' Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. As a coach, he led the club to triumphs in the German championship in 1994 and the UEFA Cup in 1996.
