it's a wider problem and it is behaviour: Southgate on Pitch invasions

England football manager Gareth Southgate has termed the flow of pitch invasions towards the final days of the Premier League as a "reflection of the society". He said that what has happened is surely a cause of concern and said that due to lockdowns, the economy is going through times which has led to an increase in such incidents. During the final days of the Premier League, Aston Villa's Robin Olsen was assaulted after the game at Manchester City, Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp got headbutted and the most famous one was Patrick Veira's interaction with a fan as Everton trumped Crystal Palace.

It is of concern. here is clearly a responsibility within football because, when it is in our environment, we have to do all we can to make sure it doesn't happen. But it's a wider problem and it is behaviour. It's a reflection of where we are as a country at the moment. It's a difficult time for people. We are going to have more difficult times because of the economy and the situation we are in, but we have to look at what we are doing in terms of parenting and how we want to be viewed as a country.
