Jean-Philippe Mateta, the forward for London club Crystal Palace and the French national team, has been released from the hospital, as reported by the club's press service.
During the FA Cup Round of 16 match against Millwall, which ended 3-1, the opposing goalkeeper left his box to intercept the ball. He accidentally kicked Mateta in the head while jumping. The goalkeeper was sent off, and Mateta required urgent medical attention — he was carried off on a stretcher and taken to the hospital where he received 25 stitches in his ear before being sent home.
We are very pleased to confirm that JP Mateta has this evening been discharged from St George's Hospital where he received specialist treatment and 25 stitches to a severe laceration to his left ear. All scans were clear and JP is feeling well.
