ICC Men's T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka takes down Namibia

Sri Lanka completed an easy win versus Namibia, winning by seven wickets and with more than six overs to spare. Namibia got bundled out for 96 and showed vulnerability against the Sri Lankan pace attack. Sri Lanka had a wobble at 26/3 to begin but recovered to post the win.

In the Namibian effort, Baard and Green departed from the crease by the score of 22, bot falling to Theekshana. However, Gerhard Erasmus and Craig Williams did a decent job of putting on a 46 runs partnership. Then Gerhard lost his wicket to Kumara and this kickstarted a collapse.

Williams fell to Hasarange at the score of 73 and the innings lost the air completely. Overall, Namibia squandered eight wickets in 28 runs and except Crag’s 29 and Gerhard’s 20, no player scored 20 or more for the team. Theekshana took three wickets for 25, Hasaranga two for 24, Kumara two for just 9, Chameera one for 19, and Karunaratne one for 17 in a more than satisfying bowling effort for the Lankans.

In the begging, Sri Lanka almost made a mess out of the chase as the top-order woes continue to plague the squad. Nissanka, Perera, and Chandimal, all fell when the score read just 26 and Sri Lanka still needed 70-odd runs as the Namibian bowlers made early inroads. However, Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa kept their cool and formed an unbeaten 74 runs partnership to take Sri Lanka home with 39 balls to spare.

Fernando made 30 off 28 while Bhanuka looked in superb touch during his 42 runs innings off 27 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. Mahesh Theekshana bagged the Player of the Match award for his 4-25-3 spell.
