Reigning UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards of England said he plans to move up to the middleweight division of the world's biggest league in the future.

Edwards said in an interview with Sky Sports:

My excitement is me getting another belt. My plan was to go next year. Defend my belt twice this year, that will be four defenses. Maybe one more [defense] next year, that's five defenses. That is my goal. Two [defenses] this year, one next year, then end of next year move up.

Recall, Edwards will fight against American Belal Muhammad on July 27 at the UFC event in Manchester.

The 32-year-old Edwards last fought in December 2023 at UFC 296, defeating Colby Covington by unanimous decision. He has 22 wins and three losses on his record. Muhammad, 35, defeated Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision at UFC 288 in May 2023. He has 23 wins and three losses on his record.
