WBBL: Sixers bowlers carve out another win

Sydney Sixers beat the Hobart Hurricanes by 31 runs to garner their fourth win in the WBBL. After batting first, Sydney made 141/4 whereas Hobart collapsed yet again reaching just 110. Hobart now lies at the second-worst position in the table with the sixth loss.

Ashleigh and Perry build a big partnership

Healy fell for a duck in what has been an inconsistent campaign for her so far. This is the fifth time in seven games she fell in single figures this tournament. However, Gardner, who has been struggling for form recently combined with Ellyse Perry to form a substantial partnership of 103 runs with Ellyse once again being the anchor in the innings. First, Gardner fell to Johnston after making 51, and then Perry fell to Nicola Carey after making 47 runs. In the end, three boundaries by Nicole Bolton propelled the team to 141.

In their four overs, Ruth Johnston and Vlaemnick gave just 23 and 22 respectively for a wicket each. Meanwhile, Carey gave 26 runs for a wicket in four overs. Molly Strano continued to be expensive and gave away 34 runs in her four overs. As a team, Hobart gave 11 wides and 2 no balls which provided a lot of extra runs to the Sixers.

Sixers bowling continues to thrive, Hurricanes batting fail again

Once again, Hurricanes received below-par returns from the top-order. Johnston went early again but the biggest blow came when the most in-form batter for the team Mignon du Preez departed after the score read just 28. From there, the team simply crumbled and once Rachel Priest got out to Perry, the other batters didn’t look like they had a chance. In the end, Priest remained the top scorer with her 27 runs innings.

Perry took a wicket for 9 runs in 2 overs. Pacers Maitlan Brown and Nicole Bolton shared 2 wickets each. Lauren Cheatle once again remained impressive, eking out a wicket for 10 runs in 2 overs. Spinner Radha Yadav conceded 20 runs in 3 overs for a wicket. Ashleigh Gardner kept it tight, giving just 15 runs in 3 overs while Stella Campbell also didn’t spend many, going for 12 runs in her 2 overs.
