Cape Town City vs Orlando Pirates Prediction: The Buccaneers have a better chance of amassing all the points

After making it to the next round of the CAF Champions League, the Pirates will be keen to at least secure a point against a tough Cape Town City team in the semifinals of the MTN 8 Cup. Both teams have made some significant strides in their attempt to perform at the highest level this season by acquiring some players during the transfer window, and we think this encounter won’t deny us some exciting moments. 

The Citizens knocked out Sekhukhune United in the quarterfinals of the competition, scoring from the penalty spot in the 88th minute despite missing the chance to convert their early spot-kick. It was an excellent start for Eric Tinkler's men, who had lost their most valuable player to CR Belouizdad in recent weeks. It was apparent they were missing a point man as their only goal came from the penalty spot just before the regular time.

Cape Town City, tied on points with fourth-place Sekhukhune United, couldn't make it to the continental tournament. Cape Town City have sold their prolific goalscorer, Eric Manyo and it’ll be hard to replace him.

The Citizens were the winner of the MTN 8 Cup in 2018, with a runner-up finish in 2017 and 2021. 

The Buccaneers have kicked off the season on high, heading here with three games without defeat. Orlando Pirates advanced to this round after their (3-1) victory over Supersport United on their ground. After the match, Jose Riveiro's men went ahead to win once and drawn a game against CS DFC in the CAF Champions League qualifying round.

The Buccaneers have made some impressive moves in the transfer window, and they’ve been tipped to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the DSTV Premier League title this campaign.

Over their previous eighteen meetings, Cape Town City have won four while Orlando Pirates have recorded six wins and eight games ending in a tie. The Buccaneers will test themselves against a robust Cape Town City side tomorrow, even though the host have sold their main striker, Eric Manyo, who has been their best player for three consecutive seasons. We are not sure how long it will take the Citizens to adjust, but with coach Eric Tinkler in charge, we expect him to challenge for a top-four finish this campaign.

Orlando Pirates have won three consecutive games against their opponent, and they have the team to make it four. However, because it’s a two-legged game, we might likely see a stalemate in this particular fixture.

Cape Town City have a strong defence, and with the fact that Orlando Pirates were in action three days ago, we think both teams might settle for a halftime draw.
