Basel vs Lausanne Prediction: Incredible Basel to keep their run intact

At St. Jakob-Park, Basel will play Lausanne in round 16 of the Swiss Super League. The two teams have been incredible in the last weeks and will look to keep things running. How will this game unfold?

Basel pulled off a 3-1 win over Servette the previous weekend and will look to keep things running. In that encounter, Xherdan Shaqiri scored in the 40th minute to put his team in the lead. However, ten minutes after the break, Timothe Cognat put the score level for his side before Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice to complete his hat trick in the last minutes of the game. Heading into this game, Basel have four consecutive victories, with their last defeat coming against Young Boys last October. 

Lausanne played Sion last weekend at home and pulled off a 1-0 win. In that encounter, Lausanne had 60 percent of the possession and attempted 14 shots, with six hitting the target. In the meantime, it was not until the 80th minute that this team found the back of the net, having been held to a goalless draw at halftime, thanks to Teddy Okou’s brilliance. Heading into this game, Lausanne have four wins in their last five games, their lone defeat coming against Winterthur away from home. 

Basel keep showing they are up for the task week in and week out, and I expect a lot from them this weekend. While Lausanne have also been incredible, it is tough to bet against them despite being on the road. However, this is a game of the better team, and with Basel at home, I expect them to win. Also, with the two teams pulling off incredible performances defensively, I still trust their attacking level, and a bet on both teams scoring is a good option.
