Cori Gauff vs Sloane Stephens Prediction: Gauff to beat her compatriot

Americans Cori “Coco” Gauff and Sloane Stephens meet in the quarterfinal of the French Open. Both players have been imperious in Paris with Gauff progressing to this stage without dropping a set. The pair have met once; at last year’s US open where Stephens won in straight sets.

The 2018 French Open finalist is a talented player whose career has been blighted by injuries and inconsistent form. In 2017 she became the lowest-ranked winner of the US open. After arriving at the French Open without a win on clay, unseeded Stephens has brushed aside most of her opposition. After a shaky start, she has consolidated as seen in her 6-2, 6-0 dismissal of in-form 23rd seed Jil Teichmann with laudable stats that include 61 points to her opponent’s 30 points and 6/9 breakpoints.

Betting on Sloane Stephens is quite unpredictable because of the player’s inconsistency. Her stats on clay indicates a likeness to the surface but she arrived Roland Garros after an abysmal clay court season winning no match. Cori Gauff will be hoping to get revenge after her loss to her compatriot on the hard courts of New York. Her victory over Elise Mertens and decent clay court season have influenced her favourite status for this match.
