Teddy Atlas Tells How Mike Tyson Knocks Out 17-Year-Old Boxer At 13

Famous American boxing trainer and analyst Teddy Atlas told the story of how former absolute world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson had his first fight at the age of 13.

TalkSPORT quoted Atlas as saying:

By this time he was probably up to 195lbs/200lbs, he was 13 years old I think. How am I gonna find a heavyweight [his age who will fight him]? I had to put him in with a 17-year-old. The other guy's looking to knock him out. So, within a minute, Mike made him miss and it's over. He knocks this 17-year-old kid out... All of a sudden he pins him on the ropes. Then he comes in, bang, he hits him with a left hook. His mouthpiece goes flying, probably about 20 feet back and winds up in somebody's lap. The legend of Mike Tyson was starting.

Tyson last entered the ring against compatriot Roy Jones Jr. as part of an exhibition bout. That fight went the full distance and ended in a draw by judges' decision. Tyson had his last fight in the professional ring in June 2005, losing to Irishman Kevin McBride by technical knockout in the sixth round. The 57-year-old Mike has 50 wins (44 by knockout) and six losses.
