Former welterweight champion Caleb Plant faced his countryman Anthony Dirrell on the night of October 16 in Brooklyn.
In this confrontation Plant won by knockout in the ninth round. Seconds after Caleb's crushing punch sent Dirrell into a knockout, he performed a scandalous celebration, pretending he was digging a grave for his opponent with a shovel.
The referee quickly ran up to the boxer to interrupt the celebration, but Plant continued to demonstrate the shovel motion gesture, breaking free of the referee's grasp. At the same time, Dirrell lay motionless in the ring while medical personnel treated him.
Plante had his last fight against Mexican Saul Alvarez in November 2021. In this fight, the American boxer lost by TKO in the 11th round. Caleb had 22 wins (13 KOs) and one loss.
