FIA Explains Lando Norris's Penalty at the Qatar Grand Prix

The press office of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has commented on the ten-second penalty issued to British Formula 1 driver Lando Norris of the McLaren team during the Qatar Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old Englishman received the ten-second penalty during the main race for exceeding the speed limit while under yellow flags. He finished the race in tenth place, 35.762 seconds behind the leader. The victory in Doha went to four-time world champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing.

According to the federation, Norris's penalty aligns with the instructions provided to teams in February 2024. His actions under the yellow flags were deemed a serious breach of safety regulations.

With just one race left in the 2024 season, Norris holds second place in the individual standings, having accumulated 349 points.
