Formula-1 Management Discusses Potential Changes To Point System

According to Motorsport, the leadership of Formula 1 will discuss changing the points system for drivers at the finish line in Geneva next week.

Negotiations and consultations will take place at the next Formula 1 commission meeting with the teams and the leadership of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). There is a possibility of implementing a new points system starting from the 2025 season.

The idea is to reward points to 12 drivers at the end of the race, instead of ten, like they have done since 2010. Points for the first seven places (25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6) will remain unchanged, but those for the eighth to twelfth positions will be redistributed (from five to one).

On April 12, the official Formula 1 website published the calendar for the new 2025 season, which kicks off in mid-March in Melbourne, Australia.
