Moroccan Footballer Is First Woman To Wear Hijab At World Cup Match

25-year-old Moroccan footballer Nouhaila Benzina became the first woman to wear a hijab in a World Cup match. Her team defeated South Korea 1-0 in the second round of Group H.

Until 2014, FIFA banned the players from wearing headgear at matches. This was explained by the risk of head and neck injuries. After canceling this restriction, both men and women were allowed to cover their heads, but the color of the headgear must match the athlete's shirt.

Meanwhile, France still prohibits female footballers from wearing hijab to matches.

After two rounds of the World Cup, the Moroccan women's national team is third in its group
