Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann made a major decision ahead of the home European Championships 2024 to change the captain of the team.
Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was wearing the armband for the games of the four-time world champions from 2017 to 2023.
The specialist decided to give the captaincy to Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. The reason for the replacement of the captain was the competition for the place of the main goalkeeper of the national team, because of which Neuer does not have a guaranteed place in the goal of the German team.
Earlier it was reported that Neuer intends to return to the main team of Bayern right after the injury. He is expected to recover after a pause for matches of the national team.
