Spain Claims Gold Medal at the Men's Olympics After Defeating France 5-3 in Extra Time

Spain claimed the gold medal in the men's Olympic football on Friday after defeating the host nation, France, 5-3 in extra time at the Parc des Princes at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

A wonderful brace from Fermin Lopez and an outstanding freekick by Alex Baena helped Spain secure an early comeback from Enzo Millot. However, the second half took another shape as a goal from Maghnes Akliouche and a penalty by Jean Philippe Mateta saw the match end draw at full time. Two goals in extra minutes saw Spain claim the gold medal for the first time since 1992 and France claim silver.

Spain became the second nation ever after France in 1984 to win the Euros and the Olympics in the same year.
