The Spanish prosecutor's office has requested a 2.5-year prison sentence for Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), over his kissing Spanish national team player Jennifer Hermoso.
Additionally, prosecutors keep demanding 1.5 years of prison time for three co-defendants: former women's national team coach Jorge Vilda, ex-director of the men's national team Albert Luque, and the former head of the federation's marketing department Ruben Rivera, due to their involvement in coercion. This was reported by AS.
Hearings in this case began on February 3, and the trial is expected to last until February 19. At a previous hearing, Rubiales claimed that Hermoso had given him consent for the kiss.
During the award ceremony for the world champions on August 20, 2023, held in Australia and New Zealand, Rubiales hugged and kissed Hermoso. In September, Spain's National Court initiated a criminal case against Rubiales, who resigned from his position as RFEF president.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) imposed a three-year ban on Rubiales’ participation in football activities.
Previously, La Liga filed a complaint with RFEF regarding criticism of refereeing by Real Madrid.
