UEFA Announces New Record for Goals in Champions League

On November 26 and 27, 18 matches of the fifth matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage for the 2024/2025 season took place, in which participants scored a total of 67 goals.

According to a statement from UEFA's press service, this marks a record for scoring in the history of the prestigious European club tournament. The previous record was set in the first round of the Champions League during the 2000/2001 season when 63 goals were scored across 16 matches.

Notably, on November 26, 40 goals were scored in the first nine matches of the fifth round, making it the second highest in Champions League history for goals in a single matchday.

Earlier, Real Madrid set a negative record in their fifth-round match against Liverpool, losing 0-2.

In other news, Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski became the third player in the tournament's history to score 100 goals.
