Benoit Saint-Denis: The Only Way to Get a Rematch with Poirier is to Take the Title from Makhachev

French UFC lightweight fighter Benoit Saint-Denis believes that he can secure a rematch with Dustin Poirier only if he can claim the championship title from Islam Makhachev.

Saint-Denis said in an interview with CBS Sports:

The only way I’ll get a shot with him [Dustin Poirier] again is [If I will] take a belt from Islam Makhachev. Then I’ll have some things that he hasn’t. But it’s the only way I see having the honor and privilege to fight him again. So I have to work my ass off to get there.

Saint-Denis and Poirier faced off in the octagon in March this year at UFC 299, where Benoit suffered a knockout loss in the second round.

Benoit’s next fight will be against Brazilian Renato Moicano at UFC Fight Night 243 in Paris, France. His mixed martial arts record stands at 13 wins and two losses, with one fight ruled as a no contest.
