Burns apologizes to Masvidal for cheating accusations at UFC 287

Top UFC welterweight Brazilian Gilbert Burns apologized to Jorge Masvidal for saying the American used moisturizing lotion before his fight at UFC 287.

Gilbert Burns
I’d love to take this moment to apologize. I kind of made a couple of accusations to him after the fight through a lot of emotion. He was super slippery, but I don’t want to throw nothing bad on the guy. The guy had an amazing career. I’d love to apologize, to send an apology to him and his team and take that away. I think I made a mistake making the accusation, and I hope he accepts my apologies. I don’t want to throw no one down. That is not me, and I’d love to take that out.

On the night of April 9 at UFC 287, Gilbert Burns defeated Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision of the judges.

Burns had his previous fight in January 2023 at UFC 283, defeating Neil Magny by first-round choke. Burns faced Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 in April 2022. Chimaev won that fight by unanimous decision. Burns has 22 wins and five losses on his record.

Masvidal fought in March 2022 against Colby Covington at UFC 272. In this fight Jorge was defeated by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 35 wins and 17 losses under his belt.
