Cormier: Velasquez Was Best Fighter In The World And Even Better Than Me

Former UFC champion in two weight categories American Daniel Cormier spoke out about his compatriot, former heavyweight division champion Cain Velasquez.

Daniel Cormier
I’II tell you, nobody wanted those Cain Velasquez problems. If that dude was healthy and ready to go, I still believe he was the best fighter. Ask me, ask Khabib (Nurmagomedov), ask the guys that saw him in the gym when he was healthy and he was good. Nobody was like Cain. I’m telling you right now, he’s one of those guys that everyone calls the best, this dude was the best. He was even better than me, for sure.

As a reminder, Cain Velasquez was arrested and jailed for more than eight months in 2022 on charges of attempted murder of the man accused of molesting his 4-year-old son. The fighter was later released on bail.

Velasquez, 41, last stepped into the octagon in February 2019 at UFC on ESPN 1, losing to Francis Ngannou by first-round knockout. He has 14 wins and three losses on his record.
