Covington: Fight With Garry Does Nothing For My Career

Former UFC interim welterweight champion, American Colby Covington explained why he doesn't intend to fight Irish fighter Ian Machado Garry.

Colby Covington
He doesn't have any high-profile wins. He does nothing for my career. If I go out there and beat this guy, everybody's just going to be like, 'Oh, he's a freaking nobody'. I want to be back in the title picture, I feel like I'm the best welterweight on Earth right now... All he had to do was turn on the comments, show you're serious about business, and do these stipulations. But he's not, so the ship's sailed.

Covington, 36, last stepped into the octagon in December 2023 at UFC 296, losing to welterweight champion Leon Edwards by unanimous decision. He has 17 wins and three losses on his record.

Garry, 26, last fought against Geoff Neal in February 2024 at UFC 298. In this fight, Ian won by split decision of judges. He has 14 wins and no losses on his record.
