UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has expressed confidence that a matchup between him and heavyweight champion Jon Jones is destined to happen.
Pereira told the media yesterday at the World MMA Awards ceremony:
I don’t know because he has to go through Aspinall first. That’s his next challenge, but I think if he passes Tom Aspinall then it’s going to be inevitable.
It is worth noting that Pereira was named Fighter of the Year at this event.
Jones last fought in the octagon in November 2024 at UFC 309, where he defeated Stipe Miocic by technical knockout in the third round. He boasts an impressive record of 28 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no contest.
Pereira’s most recent fight was against Khalil Rountree in October this year at UFC 307. That match, which was stopped in the fourth round, ended with Pereira winning by technical knockout. His current record stands at 12 wins and 2 losses.
