Analyst and former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen believes UFC matchmakers should have given Dricus du Plessis a title shot because of his feud with league middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
It was previously reported that du Plessis will next fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 on July 8 in Las Vegas.

We shouldn’t have made du Plessis vs. Whittaker. We should’ve made du Plessis vs. Adesanya. Izzy says, ‘I’m not going to fight anybody till I fight him.’ Izzy doesn’t care if he’s coming off a loss. He doesn’t care if he’s coming off a knockout humiliating defeat, he’s going to fight him next.
Du Plessis had his last fight against Derek Brunson in March of this year at UFC 285. Dricus won that fight by TKO in the second round. He has 19 wins and two losses under his belt.
Adesanya last competed in the Octagon against Alex Pereira on April 9 at UFC 287. That fight, which was stopped in the second round, ended in favor of Israel by knockout. He has 24 wins and two losses under his belt.
