40-Year-Old American Skier Lindsey Vonn Announces Return to Sport

American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn has announced her return to the sport at the age of 40. She stepped away from competitive skiing five years ago due to an injury, but this year she has resumed training.

Lindsey Vonn for The New York Times
My career ended with no intention of coming back. After my first training sessions, I had a smile so wide it was coming through the back of my helmet.

Vonn mentioned that she tries not to create long-term plans but still hopes to participate in competitions again.

The American athlete retired from the sport after the 2019 World Championships due to her injury, but five months ago she began training again and is now set to join the U.S. national team. Vonn is a 2010 Olympic champion in downhill skiing, a four-time overall World Cup winner, and a two-time world champion.
