Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren, the reigning world chess champion, played to a draw with Indian contender Gukesh Dommaraju in the ninth game of their championship match.
The 32-year-old Ding, playing with the black pieces, finished the game after 54 moves, leaving the match score tied at 4.5 to 4.5. Their tenth encounter for the chess crown is scheduled for December 7 in Singapore.
As a reminder, the match consists of 14 classical chess games and will continue until December 13. If the final score is tied, a tiebreak will be played. The total prize fund for the tournament is set at $2.5 million.
