Paralympic Track And Field Athlete Pistorius Released From Prison After Murdering His Girlfriend

Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius, sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison for the murder of his lover, left prison on parole.

This is reported by the Associated Press with reference to the Department of Correctional Institutions of South Africa. The 37-year-old South African athlete is forbidden to communicate with representatives of the press, to consume alcoholic beverages, as well as leave his house during certain hours under the terms of release.

Recall, in 2013, Pistorius killed his girlfriend, shooting in the locked door of the toilet several times. The athlete himself explained the actions by assuming she was a robber.

Pistorius was initially sentenced to five years for involuntary manslaughter. However, the article was reclassified at the retrial, and the six-time Paralympic champion was sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison for intentional homicide.
