T20 WC: Bangladesh bounces back with win against Oman

Bangladesh beat Oman by 26 runs to register the team’s first win of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Batting first, Bangladesh compiled 153 runs and Oman fell short in its pursuit, making 127 runs. Oman and Bangladesh have now registered a win each in Group B while Scotland is at the top with two wins.

Bangladesh picked Mohammad Naim instead of Saumya Sarkar this time around and the move paid off big time. After losing Liton and Mehdi early, Naim and Shakib Al Hasan compiled a partnership of 80 runs for the third wicket. Then Shakib fell to a brilliant direct hit for a run-out after making 42 runs off just 29 balls.

The innings lost its steam after the Shakib wicket, and except a 10-ball 17 runs by Mahmudullah, no other batter could muster anything special. Opener Naim finished as the highest scorer of the match with his 50-ball 64 runs innings. Bilal Khan turned out to be the most impressive bowler for Oman, claiming three wickets for just 18 runs. Fayaz Butt had three wickets, Kaleemullah two, and captain Zeeshan Maqsood bagged one.

Oman lost in-form batter Aqib Ilyas on the score of just 13, after that, Kashyap Prajapati and Jatinder Singh added 34 runs for the second wicket but Mustafizur Rahman had Kashyap caught. Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood and Jatinder then formed a 34 runs partnership, only for Mehdi Hasan to have Zeeshan caught. Oman lost the plot when the team lost Jatinder at the score of 90 and the team only made 45 runs in the last 52 balls, losing 7 wickets. Jatinder ended up making 40 runs, playing two impressive knocks in a row now.

Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets but also went for 36 runs. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan struck thrice, giving 28 runs. Mehedi Hasan turned out to be the most economical bowler, giving just 14 runs in four overs and also picking up a wicket. Meanwhile, Saifuddin also gave just 16 runs and got a wicket. Shakib Al Hasan copped the Player of the Match honors for his all-around contributions.
