Olympic champion and two-time Grand Slam winner Yevgeny Kafelnikov expressed his opinion that women in tennis do not deserve equal prize money to men.
Yevgeny Kafelnikov for RIA Novosti
I support our girls and try to watch their games. However, I have no desire to specifically watch matches in the first, second, or third rounds—except on rare occasions. Do women deserve equal pay? No, of course not.
He cited last year's fourth-round match at Roland Garros between Iga Swiatek and Anastasia Potapova, highlighting the significant difference in match duration (40 minutes for women compared to 4-5 hours for men with equal prize money).
In his opinion, this illustrates the unfairness of equal pay for male and female tennis players, as the overall match time for women is considerably less.
