Medvedev Values Grand Slams Over Olympics in Tennis, Shares Disappointment After Tokyo

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev expressed that winning Olympic Games holds less significance in tennis compared to Grand Slam tournaments.

In an interview with Eurosport, Medvedev said:

When I played the Olympics in Tokyo [in 2021], I really wanted to play well, and [after losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarter-finals] I was very, very disappointed and for a week I was really feeling bad, which doesn't happen to me all the time after lost matches. So it's a very big event which I think every player dreams of winning, but I do think that Grand Slams - in my opinion - have the edge and are a bit more important in tennis.

Medvedev had participated in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, reaching the quarterfinals where he was defeated by Spain's Pablo Carreño Busta.

In a recent announcement, the athlete stated that he would not be participating in the ATP-250 series tournament in Doha, Qatar, and would withdraw as the defending champion of the competition. Notably, this marks the second tournament this year that Medvedev has opted out of.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Medvedev retained his third-place ranking in the updated list of athletes released by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
