The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is contemplating the possibility of appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the decision not to disqualify Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner (currently ranked No. 1 in the world) despite two positive doping tests.
In response to a request from TASS, the agency stated, "As we do with all cases, we will review this decision carefully and we reserve the right to take an appeal to CAS, as appropriate."
On August 20, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported two positive doping tests for Sinner from March this year; however, he avoided disqualification. The investigation revealed that the substance entered Sinner's system due to a glove-less massage performed by his physiotherapist, leading to contamination of the doping samples.
Sinner is currently the top-ranked player in men's singles and boasts one Grand Slam title, 16 ATP tournament victories, and one Davis Cup win.
Later, the ITIA reported that due to the failed tests, Sinner would face a suspension from matches and tournaments starting in April 2024.
Darren Cahill, Sinner's coach, expressed gratitude that the young player was not disqualified.
