Brisbane Heat put on another strong performance en route to a 14 runs win over the Hobart Hurricanes. Batting first, Heat compiled a huge 170 runs courtesy of another strong opening partnership and the Hurricanes put on a fight before going down.
The most in-form opening batting of the Heat
Brisbane Heat’s openers have been the best pair by a distance in the tournament. Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne took it up a level in the game and put on 140 runs for the first wicket. Harris made 75 runs in 51 balls before getting run out. Meanwhile, Georgia Redmayne cracked a 50-ball 64 runs knock. Once Harris fell, the team only made 30 run in 29 balls. Despite the high score, Tayla Vlaemnick returned brilliant figures of 10 runs in four overs.
Mignon does her best but can’t go the distance
The opening pair of Rachel Priest and Ruth Johnston fell early in the tall chase. With the team down two wickets for 16 runs, South African specialist batter Mignon du Preez came to the pitch. She formed a 34 runs partnership with Richa Ghosh but the latter fell to Jonassen after a 9-ball 16 runs knock. Then Mignon and Nicola Carey built a terrific partnership for the fourth wicket.
The pair added 87 runs in just 56 balls with Mignon doing most of the damage. Mignon fell to compatriot Anneke Bosch after making a superb 73 runs in 49 balls. Carey fell soon after with the required still in grasp but the lower order couldn’t come through. Jess Jonassen once again proved to be a key bowler for the Heat, taking three wickets for 25 runs in her four overs.
