Friendly matches as warm-up for EURO and Copa America: Accumulator Tip for June 11

We are getting closer to the beginning of the EURO 2024, and not long after, the COPA America will start. We all are getting a little impatient until the start of this tournament, but until then we will focus on the friendly matches. The last test before the EURO Portugal will have against Ireland, while Ukraine will face Moldova and in a duel between teams that aren’t going to the EURO Greece will face Malta.

Portugal vs Ireland (Friendly match)

Portugal suffered their second defeat in three games on Saturday night, as Croatia won 2:1 in a friendly in Oeiras. Roberto Martinez's team will now look to get back to winning ways in their final game before Euro 2024. Ireland will not take part in this year's European Championship as they finished fourth in their qualifying group, picking up just six points from eight tough games. John O'Shea is still in charge of the national team as interim coach and will be in charge of the squad for this glamorous friendly with Portugal. Martinez is likely to be relatively calm about his team's performance against Croatia, but he certainly doesn't want to go into Euro 2024 on the back of another disappointing result. Ireland can make this a tough game, but I expect the hosts to win in a match with several goals.

Moldova vs Ukraine (Friendly match)

Ukraine: L-D-W-W-D

Although Moldova are still awaiting their European Championship debut, they can be proud of their performance in the qualifiers, as they took 10 points from eight games and finished the competition in Group E just one point behind Poland, who secured a place in the play-offs. The clash with Moldova concludes Ukraine's preparations, after they previously played to a goalless draw with EURO 2024 hosts, Germany, and lost to Poland 3-1. The Ukrainians ended their streak of six games without defeat (four wins and two draws) with the defeat in Warsaw, but they hope for a quick recovery. Historically, they have had the upper hand over Moldova, beating them in their previous two meetings, the last of which was in 2014. Ukraine are a big favorite in this match. However, in the previous three friendly matches, Moldova achieved two wins and one draw, with as many as eight goals scored, so I expect them to confirm their impressive attacking form once again on Tuesday at home.

Malta vs Greece (Friendly match)

Malta ingloriously ended their competition in the qualifiers for Euro 2024. In Group C, they won the last, fifth, place with all eight games lost. They scored only two goals during the competition. True, they had a tough group. They played against England, Italy, Ukraine and North Macedonia. Greece struggled in Group B and finished behind France and the Netherlands. It was an expected result for the Greeks who tried hard, but four wins were not enough to go to Euro 2024. Malta showed almost nothing in the qualifiers. They were not a team on which the others improved the goal difference, but they did not have any initiative in attack in any of the eight games. Greece held on well in their group, and were third, but remained without a place in Germany after a very bad game against Georgia, which they were convinced they would win. Greece will most likely win against Malta, it's just a matter of goal difference. I expect to see more than 2.5 goals here.
