Before their home series with the New York Mets, the Brewers had a home-and-home series against the NL Central’s top division rival, the St. Louis Cardinals. Craig Counsell’s team fell, losing all four games to the Cardinals. But even such a disappointing result did not shake their position in the standings. Milwaukee have already secured at least a wild-card spot and are eight wins ahead of St. Louis in the division.
Milwaukee’s loss to the Cardinals in the final game of the series was particularly ridiculous. The Brewers led 5-0 after four innings but trailed 5-8. One of the main anti-heroes was reliever Jake Cousins, who allowed three runs in the 7th.

The Mets have all but lost their chances
The New York Mets can take another season off the board. They got a negative win-loss balance and a 0.1% chance at a wild-card. 73-79 is hardly the result fans of a superstar-packed team were expecting.
The Boston Red Sox took the controlling shot at the Mets, winning both games against New York at Fenway Park. 3-5 and 5:12 - Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor are out. First out, though, of course, is manager Luis Rojas. He is unlikely to be forgiven for such a failure.
Tylor Megill will pitch the opening game of the series in Milwaukee. He’s a reliever, so we’ll probably see a bullpen game by the Mets.
